DAY 01: LIMA – CITY TOUR

Airport pickup and transfer to the selected hotel.

In the afternoon, between 12:00 and 12:30 p.m., we will pick you up from your hotel to begin our tour of the modern and elegant residential districts of Miraflores and San Isidro. Our first stop will be Intihuatana Park, located on the Miraflores waterfront promenade, where we can enjoy a spectacular panoramic view of the Pacific Ocean. We will continue with a panoramic visit to Huaca Pucllana, an ancient pre-Inca ceremonial temple in the shape of a pyramid that has withstood the passage of time and the city’s urban expansion. We will then head to the charming El Olivar Park, famous for its centuries-old olive trees, and tour the San Isidro Financial District, a symbol of Lima’s business development.

Our tour continues to the Historic Center of Lima, declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1991. This emblematic area was the heart of the Spanish colony in the 16th century. We will visit San Martín Square, surrounded by elegant balconies and colonial mansions, and then the imposing Plaza Mayor, home to the city’s most representative buildings: the Government Palace, Lima Cathedral, the Archbishop’s Palace, Lima City Hall and the historic Desamparados Station, among others. We will enter the majestic Convent of Santo Domingo, one of the most important convents of the 17th century. Inside are the relics of the three most venerated Peruvian saints: Saint Rose of Lima, Saint Martin de Porres and Saint John Macias. At the end of the tour, you may choose to stay at the Indian Market or the Larcomar shopping center, or return to your hotel.

Departure from Lima to the city of Paracas by tourist bus. Upon arrival, transfer to the pier to begin a motorboat excursion to the Ballestas Islands, within the Paracas National Reserve, the most important wildlife sanctuary on the Peruvian coast. Along the way, you will be able to see the mysterious Candelabra, an ancient figure drawn on the sand. On the islands, you will see sea lions, Humboldt penguins, guano birds and impressive rock formations. After the excursion, we will continue to Ica, where we will visit El Catador winery to learn about the traditional production of wine and pisco, with a tasting included. There will be free time to enjoy typical regional dishes for lunch. Later, we will visit the Huacachina Oasis, surrounded by palm trees and enormous dunes, with a walk along the promenade, a visit to the Huacachina Mermaid monument and the handicraft center. The adventure will continue in the desert aboard dune buggies, enjoying the scenery and practicing sandboarding. Finally, transfer to the station for the return trip to Lima and arrival at the hotel.

In the afternoon, between 1:30 and 1:50 p.m., our vehicle will pick you up to begin a fascinating tour of some of the city’s main attractions. We will visit the impressive Qorikancha, known as the Temple of the Sun, one of the most important structures from the Inca period.

We will then explore the four archaeological sites:

  • Sacsayhuamán, whose name in Quechua means “satisfied falcon,” an imposing fortress built with enormous stone blocks.
  • Qenqo, or “labyrinth,” a mysterious sanctuary with channels and passageways carved into the rock.
  • Puca Pucara, the “Red Fortress,” which served as a checkpoint and place of refuge in Inca times.
  • Tambomachay, known as the “Inca Baths,” with water fountains that may have been used for rituals and ceremonies honoring water.

We will end the tour by returning to the city of Cusco.

This day is dedicated to discovering some of the most important archaeological sites of the Inca Empire, surrounded by breathtaking landscapes. Our vehicle will pick you up between 7:20 and 7:50 a.m. to begin the journey to the majestic Sacred Valley of the Incas.

Our first stop will be the Písac archaeological complex, where we will visit the largest known Inca cemetery, with more than 2,000 tombs. We will admire the imposing agricultural terraces carved into the mountainside, walk through an original Inca tunnel and explore the religious area of this ancient citadel. We will spend approximately 2 hours exploring this fascinating archaeological site.

We will then head to the Písac handicraft market, famous for its colors and authenticity. We will continue to Urubamba, where we will enjoy an included buffet lunch.

In the afternoon, we will visit Ollantaytambo, an ancient Inca town that is still inhabited and is known for its colossal stone structures. We will explore the impressive ruins of the Temple of the Sun, located at the top of the formidable terraces, while learning about the strategic importance of this place during the early years of the Spanish conquest.

At the end of the visit, we will say goodbye to our guide and board the train to Machu Picchu Pueblo. Upon arrival, a member of our team will be waiting to take you to your accommodation. Later, our guide will visit you at your accommodation to provide the necessary instructions for the visit to Machu Picchu the following day.

Visit to Machu Picchu – Wonder of the World

As previously arranged with our guide, at the indicated time we will head to the bus station, where we will begin the ascent to the majestic citadel. We will climb approximately 400 meters in elevation along a winding road for about 30 minutes until we reach the impressive Historic Sanctuary of Machu Picchu, also known as the “Lost City of the Incas.”

Once at the citadel, we will enjoy an unforgettable landscape. Our guide will begin the tour by explaining the history, architecture and symbolism of the main areas, such as the Main Square, the Circular Tower, the Sacred Area of the Sun, the Royal Quarters, the Temple of the Three Windows and the ancient burial areas. The route followed will depend on the time and type of admission ticket assigned. On average, the guided tour lasts more than two hours.

After the visit, we will take the buses back to Machu Picchu Pueblo, where we will have free time for lunch and to explore the picturesque town, known for its welcoming atmosphere and handicraft shops. It is important to keep track of the time, as we must arrive at the train station at least 25 minutes early to board the train back to Ollantaytambo.

Upon arrival at the station, our driver will be waiting to take you back to the city of Cusco. Overnight in Cusco.
