WAQRAPUKARA TOUR
The WaqraPukara Full Day Tour will take you to discover one of the most enigmatic Inca temples in the Andes Mountain range, located in the Cusco region. This trekking experience is ideal for travelers looking to go off the beaten path and explore a lesser-visited destination, surrounded by breathtaking landscapes and untouched nature.
WaqraPukara, whose name means “Horn-Shaped Fortress,” may have served different purposes: a fortress, a sanctuary, or even an astronomical observatory. These are some of the interpretations surrounding this fascinating monument of classical Inca architecture, which rises to 4,300 m.a.s.l., overlooking the deep canyons of the Apurímac River, south of the city of Cusco.
Information:
The tour begins with hotel pickup between 4:30 a.m. and 5:00 a.m. Once the group is complete, we will depart by tourist transportation toward the town of Santa Lucía, on a journey of approximately 3 hours. Along the way, we will stop in Cusipata to enjoy an energizing breakfast.
From Santa Lucía, we will take a detour and travel for about 15 more minutes along a winding road until reaching the point known as Punta Carretera. There, we will prepare for about 10 minutes before starting the hike.
The hike to WaqraPukara lasts approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes, covering around 2.5 kilometers. Upon arrival, our guide will provide a detailed explanation of the history and importance of this impressive archaeological complex.
Afterward, we will have free time to explore the site on our own, take photographs, and connect with the energy of the surroundings.
At the end of the visit, we will enjoy a box lunch surrounded by spectacular Andean scenery. Then, we will return along the same trail to Punta Carretera, where our transportation will be waiting to take us back to the city of Cusco, arriving around 6:00 p.m.
