LIMA GASTRONOMIC AND CULTURAL CITY TOUR

ITINERARY:

08:30. The official tour guide will be waiting to pick you up from your hotel located in the Miraflores, San Isidro, or Barranco area. We will enjoy a tour discovering Lima through its three stages: pre-Hispanic, colonial, and modern Lima.

09:00. We begin by visiting the romantic Parque del Amor, with its view of the sea and the iconic sculpture “El Beso” (The Kiss), which welcomes us to a modern and vibrant Lima. At that moment, we will take photographs as a keepsake, which will be given to each passenger.

As we make our way through the city, the majestic Huaca Pucllana appears before us — an ancient ceremonial and archaeological center considered a sacred site by the Incas — which we will observe panoramically.

Little by little, we leave contemporary Lima behind and venture into the heart of the City of Kings. Upon arriving at the Historic Center, the colonial façades, wooden balconies, and monumental plazas transport us back to the viceregal era. During the tour, we will take in panoramic views of the elegant Palace of Justice, the traditional Paseo de los Héroes, and other corners that have witnessed centuries of history, including the Museum of the Central Reserve Bank of Peru (Museo Central), where we will enter and admire unique pieces, textiles, ceramics, and the vault of golden archaeological artifacts.

We continue our walk toward the Plaza Mayor de Lima, the setting where the city was born almost five centuries ago. Surrounded by the Government Palace, the Lima Cathedral, the Archbishop’s Palace, and the Municipal Palace, this plaza remains the historical and political heart of the country.

Ahead of us awaits one of the greatest architectural treasures of the city: the Convent and Church of San Francisco, where we will observe various saints, altarpieces, pulpits, vaults, and religious images of great historical value.

After journeying through so many centuries of history, the time comes to discover another of Peru’s great riches: its flavors. We will enjoy our first tasting experience, where we will sample local fruits such as aguaymanto, lúcuma, chirimoya, aguaje, and camu camu, which may vary according to the season. Additionally, we will taste native potatoes and a selection of piscos and Peruvian cocktails — authentic ambassadors of national identity — such as: pisco, pisco sour, passion fruit sour, maracumango sour, and lúcuma cream liqueur.

We will also visit the historic Church of Santo Domingo. Among its walls stands out the Altar of the Peruvian Saints, located in the right transept, which contains reliquaries with the remains of the three saints and a marble sculpture of Santa Rosa de Lima created by Melchor Caffá. The three saints are: Santa Rosa de Lima, San Martín de Porres, and San Juan Macías — figures deeply beloved by Peruvians. Here we will learn about the stories, miracles, and legacies that have transcended generations, and why they are so important to the Peruvian people.

Upon completing this journey through Lima’s three stages — pre-Hispanic, colonial, and modern — we will close this experience on a high note. We return to the district of Miraflores to visit a restaurant specializing in seafood, where the chef herself will show us how ceviche is prepared and what types of fish are used. She will also explain the tiradito and yuca balls with huancaína sauce, one of the most emblematic sauces in Peru. We will learn a great deal about Peruvian gastronomy and why it is recognized worldwide. After the explanation, we will taste a classic ceviche, boliyuca a la huancaína, and tiradito in yellow chili sauce during the AM shift. For the PM shift, a demonstration class and tasting of piscos and chilcanos will be held, and snacks such as tequeños and boliyucas in huancaína sauce will be served.
