INCA TRAIL – 04 DAYS

04 DAYS

The Inca Trail is undoubtedly one of the most impressive trekking routes in all of the Americas, offering a truly unforgettable experience. Along the way, you will walk through a well‑preserved natural environment, where mountains blend with the high‑Andean jungle, surrounded by spectacular landscapes and ancient Inca archaeological complexes connected by ancestral paths.

This sacred trail was used by the Incas as a spiritual and pilgrimage route to the citadel of Machu Picchu, turning the journey into an experience filled with history, mysticism, and a unique energy.

The 4‑Day Inca Trail is one of Peru’s most popular tours and takes you along some of the oldest and most iconic paths of the Inca Empire, crossing unique landscapes and culturally significant archaeological sites.

If you are looking for an authentic and transformative adventure, the 4‑Day Inca Trail is an experience you definitely should not miss.

Day 1: Cusco – Km 82 – Wayllabamba – Ayapata

The Classic Inca Trail to Machu Picchu begins early in the morning with departure from Cusco (3,350 m / 10,990 ft) at 5:30 a.m. by tourist transport. Along the way, we will pass through extensive farmlands and Andean communities that preserve their ancestral traditions.

Upon arrival at Km 82, the official starting point of the Inca Trail, we will meet our support team and porters. From here, we begin the hike along the ancient Inca Trail, part of the legendary Qhapaq Ñan, the vast road network of the Inca Empire.

After approximately three hours of hiking, we will enjoy lunch in Hatunchaka (3,000 m / 9,840 ft), a small village where it is also possible to buy water, snacks, and use restroom facilities.

After a short rest, we continue to Wayllabamba (3,100 m / 10,170 ft), considered the last inhabited village on the route. We then hike for about one more hour to reach Ayapata Camp (3,300 m / 10,825 ft), where we will spend the night.

This first day offers an ideal introduction to the Classic Inca Trail and is one of the most authentic and traditional routes to Machu Picchu.

Hiking time: 6–7 hours

At sunrise, we will enjoy a warm and mystical Andean setting, surrounded by pristine nature. After breakfast, we ascend through the Ayapata Valley to Llulluchapampa (3,850 m / 12,630 ft).

We continue uphill to reach the highest point of the Inca Trail, Warmihuañusca, also known as Dead Woman’s Pass (4,200 m / 13,780 ft). From here, we are rewarded with stunning panoramic views, including the majestic Verónica Glacier. This is one of the most emblematic sections of the Inca Trail, symbolizing effort and spiritual connection.

After enjoying the scenery, we descend to the Pacaymayu Valley (3,500 m / 11,480 ft) for a well‑deserved lunch. We then continue hiking toward Chaquicocha Camp, following ancient Inca paths and historic sections of the trail.

We will spend the night at Chaquicocha Camp, surrounded by a unique natural environment.

Hiking time: 10–11 hours

This day is considered one of the shortest and most beautiful on the Inca Trail, thanks to the constant changes in ecosystems and breathtaking landscapes. After breakfast, we hike to Phuyupatamarka Pass (3,600 m / 11,810 ft), a privileged viewpoint with spectacular views of mountains and valleys.

Here we visit the Phuyupatamarka archaeological site, known as the “City Above the Clouds.” We then descend through Intipata, famous for its impressive agricultural terraces.

Later, we arrive at the final campsite of the Inca Trail, Wiñay Wayna (2,650 m / 8,695 ft), where we enjoy lunch and spend the night. In the afternoon, we visit the Wiñay Wayna archaeological complex, one of the most remarkable legacies of the Inca Trail.

Hiking time: 5–6 hours

Very early in the morning, our support team (porters) will provide a box breakfast. At approximately 3:30 a.m., we begin hiking with headlamps to the checkpoint, waiting until 5:30 a.m. when the gate opens to continue to the Sun Gate (Inti Punku – 2,780 m / 9,120 ft).

From here, we witness one of the most emotional moments of the journey: the sunrise over Machu Picchu and Huayna Picchu. Inti Punku was the original entrance to the Inca citadel and remains one of the most impressive viewpoints on the trail.

Around 8:00 a.m., we enter the Machu Picchu Citadel (2,400 m / 7,875 ft) for a guided tour of approximately 2 hours, learning about its history, architecture, and cultural significance.

After the visit, we descend by bus to Aguas Calientes, where you will have free time for lunch (not included). In the afternoon, we board the train back to Ollantaytambo (regular departure at 2:55 p.m.) and continue by bus to Cusco, arriving at approximately 7:00 p.m.
