Live an unforgettable experience on the 2-day Inca Trail hike, also known as the Inca Trail 2 Days, one of the most popular routes to reach Machu Picchu.
The adventure begins with a train journey to Km 104, the starting point of the trek. From there, you will hike through important archaeological sites such as Chachabamba and Wiñay Wayna, surrounded by stunning Andean landscapes, until reaching Inti Punku (the Sun Gate), where you will enjoy a spectacular and emotional first view of Machu Picchu.
After spending the night in Aguas Calientes, the next day you will enjoy a guided tour of the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu, discovering its history, architecture, and mysteries. Optionally, you may hike up Huayna Picchu for unique panoramic views. Finally, you will return to the city of Cusco.
Day 1: Cusco – Ollantaytambo – Km 104 – Chachabamba – Wiñay Wayna – Inti Punku – Aguas Calientes
The Inca Trail to Machu Picchu adventure begins early in the morning with pickup from your hotel in Cusco. We will travel to Ollantaytambo on an approximately 2-hour drive (94 km), where we will board the train to Km 104, the starting point of the trek.
Upon arrival at Km 104, we officially begin the 2-day Inca Trail hike. The first archaeological site we will visit is Chachabamba, located about 30 minutes from the trailhead. This section has a gentle incline and offers beautiful views of Andean vegetation.
Chachabamba sits at 2,250 m (7,382 ft) above sea level and is of great historical importance. Here, we will explore stone structures that were part of an important ceremonial center dedicated to water worship, featuring finely carved canals and fountains that showcase advanced Inca engineering.
Continuing the route, we will hike toward Wiñay Wayna, one of the most impressive archaeological complexes along the Inca Trail. This section covers approximately 6 km, with an estimated 4-hour ascent. The effort is rewarded with breathtaking scenery and an exceptional archaeological site.
Located at 2,680 m (8,793 ft) above sea level, Wiñay Wayna is famous for its agricultural terraces and structures perfectly integrated into the natural environment, reflecting the harmony between the Incas and nature.
After the visit, we will enjoy lunch with a privileged view of Wiñay Wayna. Following a short rest, we will continue hiking toward Inti Punku (the Sun Gate), where we will enjoy the first panoramic view of Machu Picchu, one of the most emotional moments of the journey. This site has great astronomical significance, as it aligns with the sun during the summer solstice, demonstrating the Incas’ deep astronomical knowledge.
Finally, we will descend to the town of Aguas Calientes on an approximately 1-hour walk, where we will spend the night in preparation for the guided visit to Machu Picchu the following day.
Day 2: Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Cusco
The second day begins very early. We will board the tourist bus from Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu, a ride of approximately 30 minutes (8 km). We will arrive in time to witness a spectacular sunrise over the majestic Inca city—an unforgettable experience.
Once inside Machu Picchu, we will enjoy a guided tour of approximately 2 hours, during which you will learn about the history, spiritual significance, and impressive architecture of this Wonder of the World. Our professional guide will take you through the main sectors, revealing the mysteries and grandeur of the Inca civilization.
After the tour, we will descend by bus back to Aguas Calientes, where you will have free time for lunch. Our guides will be happy to recommend restaurants according to your preferences.
Later, we will head to the train station to board the return train to Ollantaytambo, a journey of approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes. Upon arrival, we will take private transportation back to Cusco, with an estimated 2-hour drive (94 km), concluding this extraordinary Inca Trail experience.
